Barbara Weiss Architects

Barbara Weiss Architects’ work is consistently recognisable for the intrinsic quality of its timeless simplicity, its appropriateness to context and extreme attention to detail. The value and beauty of their projects are meant to be discovered slowly, and appreciated over a period of time, as spaces and objects are repeatedly used, and as their palette of natural materials is allowed to age gracefully, acquiring patina and developing a genuine and special richness.

Founded in 1987, the practice is medium size and international in its composition and design outlook; quite unusually for the profession, it employs a high percentage of women architects. With London at the centre of its activity, a significant number of projects has been completed outside the capital and abroad, in the USA and in Italy.

Well-known for having excelled at a number of diverse typologies, including healthcare and education, the majority of BWA’s work is residential, for every possible type of individual end-user client, but also for high-quality developers and Housing Associations.

It is the practice’s mantra that quality design does not need to be expensive, and that long years of experience, and a good eye, can go a long way to producing unique environments that are both practical and beautiful. In particular, BWA’s unique storage design is famed – an unusual specialism for which there has been constant demand. In working closely with its clients, Barbara Weiss Architects provides a highly bespoke service, irrespective of size or complexity of project.

The Modern House Says
"BWA's is a simple, clean touch, one in which its founders' love of modernist greats like Le Corbusier and Eileen Gray makes itself known through minimal detailing and in-built functionality."
