This fantastic 3-bed house with a swimming pool can be found in a tranquil setting in the beautiful Tarn-et-Garonne region of southwestern France. The architect Vicky Thornton, working in association with Jef Smith of MELD, has made the most of wonderful views by designing the house with extensive glazing and three outdoor terrace areas. Their sensitive design, built using the best local materials, ensures that the house sits comfortably within its rural surroundings.
Petit Bayle is constructed using a spectacular overhanging chestnut-clad timber frame sitting atop a limestone base. Set on a sloping site, the house commands far-reaching views of the Tarn-et-Garonne landscape.
With a green roof, solar thermal panels for hot water and rainwater harvesting for irrigation and WC flushing, the house is also considerate to the environment.
Petit Bayle is situated 5 km from the picturesque village of Lauzerte. The local towns are Cahors (40 mins), Montauban (40 mins) and Moissac (20 mins), all of which have beautiful cathedrals, markets and distinct vernacular architecture.
There is a newly-built swimming pool at the house (situated looking out over the valley) but for wilder swimming there are also rivers and lakes only a short distance away. Lovely walks through the rolling countryside are easily undertaken from the house.
