“Factory style windows and curved lines characterise the building's façade, while interiors unfold around steel pillars and beautiful contemporary additions”

On the first floor of a former clothing factory, less than five minutes’ walk from London Fields, is this fantastic, recently renovated two-bedroom apartment. A select palette of the finest contemporary materials has been used for the interiors, which unfold behind a smart façade of curved brickwork with superb factory windows.

The Tour

The former factory presents a stylish yet understated façade to the street. Thought to have been built in the 1930s, the building gives some clues to its history via its curved brickwork, found on the Florfield Road and Reading Lane aspects, as well as the curved brick embellishments on the large industrial-style windows across the building. There is lift access to all floors and the communal areas are well maintained.

Internally, the building’s industrial features have been preserved and updated in a sensitive manner. The apartment’s layout is centred around a large open-plan kitchen, living and dining area, illuminated by the original factory windows. This is a bright space, arguably the heart of the home, which has a wonderful sense of flow, in part due to the oak floorboards that run underfoot throughout.

A large, white-painted steel pillar punctuates the centre of the plan. To one side, a bespoke contemporary kitchen has been configured around an island with a quartz worktop. This has sleek grey units and integrated appliances by Siemens and Bosch. The spacious living and dining area adjoins the kitchen and benefits from rows of large factory windows on the southern and western aspects.

A large bathroom is positioned off the living room and has a bath, separate shower with Zellige tiles and a custom-made Diespecker & Co. terrazzo sink. The main bedroom, slightly further down the hallway, has an en suite shower room with a Lusso Stone marble sink and further areas of Zellige tiling. A second double bedroom is positioned opposite, with built-in wardrobes and a desk.

The Area

Florfield Road is perfectly positioned for the best of London Fields, Wilton Way, Mare Street and Broadway Market. There are many fantastic restaurants locally, notably Lardo, Little Duck |The Picklery, Pidgin and Violet Cakes on Wilton Way. Weekly markets take place at Victoria Park, with Broadway Market also a short walk along the Regent’s Canal Path. E5 Bakehouse, on the edge of London Fields, is excellent for freshly baked artisan bread, and nearby Netil Market is a thriving hub of restaurants, breweries and coffee roasters.

Hackney Central runs direct services to Stratford and Highbury & Islington on the London Overground, and London Fields offers direct trains to Liverpool Street. Bethnal Green Underground Station, easily accessible by bus, has excellent links to central London via the Central Line.
