“Replete with original 1930s features, including art deco ceiling mouldings”

Positioned on the first floor of Wyatt Park Mansions in Streatham Hill is this fantastic two-bedroom flat. The current owners have decorated with the building’s mid-century ethos firmly in mind, employing a muted colour palette and considered materials; these include warm parquet flooring, which seamlessly interacts with the home’s 1930s origins. Many carefully preserved original features remain, including the picture rails, deco-style ceiling mouldings, and door handles.

The Tour

Each room is accessed from a central lobby area with plenty of built-in storage and space for hanging. The home retains many original features and pared-back details including the skirting, ceiling mouldings and internal doors, all characterised by their relative simplicity and geometric proportions.

The bright, spacious living area lies opposite the front door and leads the way to a contemporary galley kitchen with white cabinetry, quartz work surfaces and a black herringbone tiled splashback. The floor in this room is made from a series of one pence pieces, carefully set in resin to create a striking copper sheen.

Adjacent to the living area is the main bedroom, painted in contrasting white and midnight blue. The current owners have cleverly extended the wardrobes to create storage space. The second double bedroom is positioned on the right of the plan; currently configured as a study, it has plenty of shelving space running the length of the wall.

The understated neutral bathroom has been subject to a recent renovation; the current owners have added new ceramic tiles underfoot, in addition to underfloor heating.

The Area

Streatham Hill is home to a number of independent restaurants, cafes and grocers, notably Streatham Wine House, Batch and Co, Don Luigi, Fish TaleThompson Deli & Baker and Art & Craft.

There are two farmers markets nearby: Balham (every Saturday), and Streatham (the third Saturday of the month). Also in proximity is the Streatham Space Project, a new arts venue that hosts an array of events including theatre, cinema and comedy.

The green spaces of Brockwell Park, Tooting Common and Tooting Bec Common are a short walk away. Brockwell Park is one of London’s most popular and has a lido, a 50-metre pool and a Grade II-listed art deco pavilion, as well as a cafe, tennis courts and a walled garden. Each summer it hosts the Lambeth Country Show, as well as an array of music festivals. Tooting Bec Lido, the largest freshwater swimming pool in the UK, is also in proximity.

Wyatt Park Mansions is a five-minute walk from Streatham Hill railway station, where regular trains run to Victoria with a journey time of around 17 minutes. The nearest tube station is Brixton (Victoria Line), which is easily reached by a number of buses. Streatham Hill is served by particularly good bus links and is well placed for road access to the south.
