This crisp and immaculate five-bedroom detached house sits at the end of a leafy cul-de-sac in the village of Great Barton, near Bury St. Edmunds. It is an excellent example of mid-century modern architecture, with large picture windows that fill the spacious rooms with light.

Access is across a large forecourt past a double garage. The front door opens onto a spacious square hall with original parquet tiled floor. To the left, and at the front of the house, the sitting room is broad and minimal with a modern fireplace housed in a lime-rendered chimney stack. Flanking the fireplace, open doorways lead into the dining room with sliding doors to the patio and a view out across the garden. Next to the dining room is a second sitting room or snug, which leads through to the kitchen and utility room. Upstairs there is a master bedroom with en-suite, four further bedrooms and a family bathroom.

The large garden stretches out behind the house, with side access from the forecourt. At the far end, hidden behind a box hedge, is a well-tended vegetable garden in raised beds, a greenhouse and small orchard with apple, pear and almond trees.

The house really makes the most of its mid-century style; particularly of note are the copper banisters and the original picture windows with brushed aluminium frames and wooden sills. The master bedroom, like the sitting room, has windows that look out towards the front and back.

The house forms part of an estate on which each property is individually designed and accessed by tributary lanes that run off the main horseshoe road. The surrounding grassy area is very peaceful and abundant with a variety of trees.

Great Barton is a very popular and pretty village on the outskirts of Bury St. Edmunds. It was named Suffolk Village of the Year in 2013, an award that aims to highlight community spirit, the general appearance of a village and the activities that take place within it. There are local shops, a butcher, Post Office, primary school, a pub and petrol station, and very quick access to the A14 towards Ipswich, the East Coast, Cambridge, the Midlands and London via the M11. Trains to London from Bury St. Edmunds take around 1hr 30 minutes or 40 minutes to Cambridge.
