Spectacularly situated, with wonderful sea views, Parkham Wood House was designed by the innovative Devon architect Mervyn Seal in 1967. This exhilarating three-bedroom house built high across a cliff face, with its extensive glazing and distinctive ‘Butterfly’ profile, is one of a small collection of similar houses designed by Seal in the Torbay area.

The outstanding and original interiors and exterior of the house (including an impressive 1960s glass chandelier) have led to the house being recommended for listed status. Timber-clad ceilings, bespoke shelving and open tread staircases are also among the many engaging features of the house. There is, however, still considerable scope for updating the interior in a sympathetic manner. Recently described by the 20th Century Society as “a remarkable achievement”, Parkham Wood House is widely considered to be Seal’s finest work for its combination of ingenious structural design and daring decorative style.

Wonderfully located in the town centre of Brixham, the elevated position of the house allows for far reaching panoramic views across the town, the picturesque harbour and the sea beyond. A private garden above the house offers an even better vantage point.

Brixham is an attractive and historic Devon harbour town. Still an active fishing port, the town is also renowned for its yacht club. Numerous beaches can be found along the nearby coast and there are plenty of coastal stunning walks in the area. There is a wide range of shops in Brixham, with the larger towns of Paignton and Torquay offering further facilities.
