This large house, set in 2.5 acres of grounds, is a radical conversion of a 1930s property by the architects Foster Lomas. The widespread changes were completed in 2004 and have transformed what was an undistinguished house into an imaginative 3 / 4 bedroom home that is filled with light and open space. Extensive glazing ensures that the most is made of the views across the grounds and beyond.

Foster Lomas are a London-based architectural practice run by Greg Lomas and William Foster. Having gained experience working for Foster & Partners, the Manser Practice and Sheppard Robson, Lomas and Foster set up on their own in 2000 and have since forged a strong reputation for their inventive residential work. Also working in the fields of product and lighting design, Foster Lomas were well qualified to give the Stick Hill house the complete internal and external renovation that was asked for. Given free creative rein by the current owners, their designs are at once progressive and practical.

The house is wonderfully well detailed throughout. Features include parquet woodblock flooring and poured concrete flooring, German double-glazed window units, an artist–designed iron and copper fireplace, and impressive bespoke oak kitchen units.

The house can be found on Stick Hill, a country road that runs between Westerham and Edenbridge. Edenbridge is the closest town and offers a range of schools, shops and dining opportunities. Further facilities can be found in Sevenoaks or Tunbridge Wells (both approximately 20 minutes by car). Trains run from nearby Hever station to London Bridge in approximately 45 minutes. The M25 (junctions 5 or 6) is less than 10 miles away.
