Introduction
Accommodation

Sleeps: 2+

This exceptional Modernist pavilion in the Southern California desert is partly open to the elements, giving visitors a raw experience of both architecture and  landscape.

There is a large sheltered bedroom with apertures at both ends of the roof that bring in desert breezes. Adjoining the bedroom is a shower room (with a built-in bench) that is open to the skies. A glass-roofed kitchen provides space for cooking. The living room can be found sunken into the desert floor and surrounded by block-screen walls and iron screens that slide open to reveal the desert. There is also a heated spa, barbecue, fire pit and stereo on the site.

This pavilion takes the Modernist ideal of the integration of architecture and landscape to its logical extreme. Providing shelter yet also maintaining connection with the natural world, the pavilion escapes definition, existing somewhere between architecture, sculpture, land art, shelter, and even yurt.

It can be found tucked behind a rock outcrop on the edge of open and natural desert in Southern California, just five minutes from the National Park and downtown Joshua Tree.
