This beautifully realised casa in the historic town of San Miguel de Allende was designed in 2005 by Mexico's most celebrated living architect, Ricardo Legorreta.
Although only a small town, San Miguel de Allende is one of Mexico's jewels. Known for the beauty of its colonial architecture, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The town is also renowned for its diversity of museums, galleries and cultural events.
It is within good driving distance (under two hours) of such inspiring sites as the historic cities and towns of Santiago de Querétaro, Guanajuato and Las Posas.
The casa, painted in the hot colours for which Legorreta is known, is spacious, comfortable and full of light. Legorreta's architecture takes after traditional Mexican architecture but combines this with a determinedly contemporary outlook. Simple but striking geometry and the use of light as a formal element are continuing themes of his work, and both are very apparent at Casa Aldama. Legoretta has also designed much of the furniture and many of the fittings specially for the casa.
There is a pool and large garden at the property and it is serviced by a full-time maid, cook and gardener. The listed prices are all-inclusive aside from the heating of the pool.
Transport Links: Buses run directly from Mexico City airport to San Miguel de Allende. Alternatively a car with driver is approximately US $200. Journey times from Mexico City to San Miguel de Allende by road are approximately 3 hours.
