This is a rare opportunity to rent for a six month period one of the most admired private residences to have been built in Britain in the 20th century. The Turn is a two-bedroom property that forms part of a group of a trio of houses designed and built by the architect Peter Aldington in 1964 – 67. Described by English Heritage as “Aldington’s answer to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin”, all three houses have a Grade II* listing. The limited period of the rental term is reflected in the low asking price for this property.

The houses can be found in a tranquil setting in the historic Buckinghamshire village of Haddenham. Although officially a village, Haddenham is more akin to a town in size and has a mainline railway station (ten minutes' walk from The Turn) that runs a service into London Marylebone in approximately 50 minutes.

The Turn is a single-storey house that has two double bedrooms, a kitchen / dining room, a bathroom and a living room. There is also a large storage space reached by a ladder, and a small internal courtyard. The house comes with its own private garden, the maintenance of which is included in the rental price. The Turn is offered unfurnished although, as is typical of houses designed by Aldington, there is much built-in furniture and fittings. There is a carport for off-street parking of one / two cars.

Aldington is one of Britain’s finest 20th-century architects (recognised by the fact that he has more of his house designs listed than any other living architect). Aldington’s talent lies in his masterly manipulation of space and form and his exacting eye for detail. His houses have a subtle and engaging appeal that needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.
